Toby gives Dream performance

Congratulations to Toby Spence who last Saturday, 2 August, sang a wonderful performance of Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius at Gloucester Cathedral, marking the finale of this year’s ‘Three Choirs Festival’. Hugh Canning in the Sunday Times describing his performance with “his clean lyric tenor seems to have found new reserves of heft”.

This weekend was also a busy one for Toby, who flew back from Vienna where he is currently in rehearsals at the Theater an der Wien for The Rake’s Progress, to step into the breach to sing Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the National Youth Orchestra and Vasily Petrenko at the BBC Proms.

Next month’s opening of The Rake’s Progress in Vienna launches Toby’s 2013/14 season which sees Toby sing Tamino and Tito at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Tito at the Wiener Staatsoper and concerts with Michael Tilson-Thomas in San Francisco, John Eliot Gardiner in Munich and Dresden and he works again with Vasily Petrenko with the Royal Liverpool Philhamonic Orchestra.
