Toby Spence makes his role debut as Anatol in Barber’s Vanessa at Oper Frankfurt. He joins Jessica Strong as Vanessa, Jenny Carlstedt as Erika, Barbara Zechmeister as the Old Baroness, Dietrich Volle as the Old Doctor and Mikołaj Trąbka as Nicholas in Katharina Thoma’s production from Malmö Opera, and Rasmus Baumann conducting the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester.
Following Vanessa, Toby will sing Bruckner’s Mass no. 3 in F minor with Catherine Wyn-Rogers and the Sinfonieorchester Basel; Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with Kate Royal and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at the Oxford Lieder Festival; Liszt’s Faust Symphony with the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg; Haydn’s The Seasons with the Orchestre de chambre de Paris at Philharmonie de Paris; Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall; Philip Glass’ meditation on Gandhi’s early years in South Africa, Satyagraha, at the English National Opera; Messiah, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy and Haydn’s Nelson Mass with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in Mumbai; Missa Solemnis with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, and as Edward Fairfax Vere in Britten’s Billy Budd for Opera di Roma.
Vanessa opens at the Frankfurt Opera House on 15 September, with further performances on 22 and 24 September, 1 and 5 October 2017. More information here.
