Orchestras

London Symphony Orchestra

Introduction

The London Symphony Orchestra performs over 120 concerts a year and was named by Gramophone as one of the top five orchestras in the world.

The LSO has an enviable family of artists; their conductors include Valery Gergiev as Principal Conductor, Michael Tilson Thomas and Daniel Harding as Principal Guest Conductors, and André Previn as Conductor Laureate.  In 2015, the LSO announced the appointment of Sir Simon Rattle as its Music Director, taking up the post in September 2017.

The LSO is a Resident Orchestra at the Barbican Centre, where it performs around seventy concerts a year.  However, the orchestra also enjoys successful residencies at the Lincoln Center, New York,  the Philharmonie de Paris, and at Suntory Hall, Tokyo. Over the past years, Askonas Holt has arranged many tours for the LSO in Europe and Asia, with a variety of conductors, including Myung-Whun Chung, Valery Gergiev and both of the LSO’s Principal Guest Conductors, Daniel Harding and Michael Tilson Thomas.

The LSO reaches out much further with its own recording label – LSO Live, the first of its kind which launched in 1999 – and now streams its music to millions around the world.
