Continuing their 40th Anniversary Capital Sounds project, the European Union Youth Orchestra perform at Philharmonie Luxembourg on 23 April 2019, in a benefit concert for the Croix-Rouge luxembourgeoise (Luxembourg Red Cross).
Vasily Petrenko leads the orchestra in an all-Russian programme, with works by Glinka, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. He is joined on stage by renowned Latvian soprano Kristine Opolais.
The Capital Sounds project is composed of 28 events in the coming years, each in a different EU capital. The events include a keynote speech by a significant cultural figure of that country, which in Luxembourg will be Michel Wurth. The Capital Sounds project is presented in association with Askonas Holt, and is being developed jointly with the EUYO’s network of 28 National Associate Partners and 28 grant-giving organisations in all the EU’s member states.
