Following three highly successful tours in Europe, the USA and Canada between 2016-2018, Joyce DiDonato’s “In War & Peace: Harmony Through Music” comes to Moscow for two special performances in the brand new Zaryadye Hall.
“Perhaps my most personal project to date” is how American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato describes In War & Peace: Harmony through Music. Her ambitions for this collection of arias from Baroque operas are substantial. Working with breakout early music sensation il pomo d’oro – a group of musicians who are among the best to be found worldwide for authentic and vivid interpretation on period instruments – Joyce’s aim is to steer conversation and discourse to help all of us find peace in our lives in a dynamic way.
The programme comprises arias divided into two sections: ‘War’ and ‘Peace’. Both contain music by Purcell and Handel – including Dido’s dignified, but searing lament from Dido and Aeneas and Almirena’s haunting and heartbreaking “Lascia ch’io pianga” from Rinaldo.
The two performances of “In War & Peace” will be alongside a third concert on 30th November in the Chamber Hall of Zaryadye Hall. Il pomo d’oro’s fantastically-talented music director Maxim Emelyanychev will play/direct an amazing programme of Mozart’s music.
It will be a symphonic journey from the beginning of the symphonies to the last, with the wonderful Piano concerto No. 20 in the middle, which he will also perform.
The programme will showcase Maxim’s talent as both conductor and instrumentalist as well as il pomo d’oro’s versatility as one of the leading period instruments ensembles performing today.
