Introduction

San Francisco Symphony will return to Europe for a tour which will mark its own centenary, as well as the Mahler Centenary years with programmes which will celebrate the great Symphonies of Mahler. Launched in 2001, the San Francisco Symphony and Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas???s series of critically acclaimed Gustav Mahler symphony recordings are issued on their own in-house recording label SFS Media???. The first U.S. orchestra to form its own label, the San Francisco Symphony has recorded all of the Mahler symphonies, the Adagio from the unfinished Tenth Symphony, Kindertotenlieder and Das Lied von der Erde and released a re-mastered recording of Das klagende Lied.The project was completed last year with a disc of Mahler???s works for voice and orchestra, ‘Mahler Songs with Orchestra’, recorded with Susan Graham and Thomas Hampson.
