Askonas Holt artists recognised on both sides of the pond.
This week has turned out to be a great glittering award-winning week for Askonas Holt artists. On Sunday, at New York’s Plaza Hotel, Simon Keenlyside and David Daniels were both honoured for their distinguished achievements to opera at the 2013 Opera News Awards. Simon Keenlyside was presented his award by Isabel Leonard, his co-star in Adès’ The Tempest at the Metropolitan Opera last autumn; and Harry Bicket (who is currently conducting David in The Met’s production of Giulio Cesare) presented David Daniels with his award. The April edition of Opera News included a magnificent tribute to Simon Keenlyside by Brian Kellow, please click here to read the article.
And then on Monday 22nd April, London’s Park Lane Hotel held the inaugural International Opera Awards and Askonas Holt artists once again proved their mettle. Sarah Connolly was nominated for the Female Singer of the Year; Sophie Bevan received the Young Singers award: a category that also included nominees Duncan Rock and Andrei Bondarenko; George Benjamin received the World Premiere award for his critically acclaimed Written on Skin, a project which includes Audun Iversen and Iestyn Davies; Daniel Harding conducted the winning CD Operatic Recital and, following their hugely successful residency last season for Porgy&Bess, Cape Town Opera received the Chorus award.
