Making their debut as a trio, Alisa Weilerstein, Inon Barnatan and Sergey Khachatryan begin a European tour of Schoenberg’s impassioned Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) this week, arranged for trio by Eduard Steuermann. The tour follows the 2018 release of Alisa’s album, Transfigured Night, which featured the string orchestra transcription with the Trondheim Soloists. The concerts will take place at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ Amsterdam (8 February), Saffron Hall (9 February) and Wigmore Hall (11 February).
The performances open with Beethoven’s Piano Trio Op. 70 No. 1 Ghost, and the trio will be joined by percussionists Colin Currie, Sam Walton and Owen Gunnell for a finale of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15 for Piano Trio and Three Percussionists, arranged by Victor Derevianko.
Alisa, Inon and Sergey will reunite for a US tour of the same programme in May 2019, with performances in Chicago (6 May), Norfolk, VA (8 May), Washington (9 May) and Kansas City (10 May).
