This was a triumphant return to the Opéra National de Paris for Sarah, and the reviews were glowing:
“The splendid mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly, in excellent form, makes a sympathetic character of Phèdre, whose fatal infatuation with Hippolyte is as repellent to her as it is to everyone else.” (George Loomis, New York Times, 26 June 2012)
Next up for Sarah is the First Night of the Proms this Friday, 13 July, where she joins the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Edward Gardner for a performance of Elgar’s ‘Coronation Ode’. She also looks forward to a return to Covent Garden in the Autumn for her role debut as Fricka in Wagner’s ‘Ring’ cycle.
Well done Sarah, a wonderful end to the season!
