Verbier Festival 2019

This year’s festival in the Swiss Alps brings together four diverse AH artists for two weeks of glorious music.

Stanislav Kochanovsky returns to Verbier for the third consecutive year, once again leading the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra in an opera in concert performance. This year it’s Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, with 2019 Verbier Festival Academy and fellow AH artist Victoria Karkacheva as Dritte Dame. As a Verbier Festival Academy Artist, Victoria will also take part in masterclasses with Thomas Hampson, Susannah Waters and Tim Carroll, and the Atelier Lyrique’s final showcase on 28 July.

Verbier regular Sir András Schiff will give several performances across the season, including a solo recital of Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I ; a duo recital with Renaud Capuçon; and Bartók Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 3 with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and Gábor Takács-Nagy. Sir András will also share his vast experience with the next generation of pianists through masterclasses on 29 and 31 July.

Cellist Jian Wang will also be imparting his knowledge through five masterclasses with members of the Verbier Festival Academy. He also performs in two chamber music programmes: the first with violinist Kristóf Baráti, violist Lawrence Power, and pianists Sergei Babayan and Lahav Shani; the second with violinists Joshua Bell and Alexander Sitkovetsky, violists Blythe Teh Engstroem and Lars Anders Tomter, and cellist Frans Helmerson.
