Another new year, and another disc of the month for Lars Vogt and Christian Tetzlaff. This time it’s their reading of Schumann’s three violin sonatas, released again on the Ondine label, which has been celebrated by Gramophone magazine and chosen as their recording of the month for January 2014.
With the selection of these violin sonatas for violin and piano by Robert Schumann (1810-1856) the artists show the development of the composer, including the third sonata that was neglected for a long time after Schumann’s death and only premiered in 1956.
Harriet Smith of Gramophone calls this a “special” recording, and goes on to describe the “…myriad colours and subtle phrasing at play…”, concluding that this release “…wipes the floor with the competition…”.
to be taken directly to the GramophonePlayer, where you can listen to excerpts from this excellent recording.
This month Lars Vogt appears frequently in the UK with the CBSO, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and with the Northern Sinfonia at the Sage in Gateshead (his UK conducting debut), while he will next appear together with Christian Tetzlaff on a duo recital tour of the United States this Spring performing in Boston, Montreal and Philadelphia.
