You can read reviews of all the winning and shortlisted recordings in Gramophone’s free digital magazine, available here.

The Gramophone Awards – including the winner of the 2016 Artist of the Year – will be presented on Thursday 15 September 2016 at St John’s Smith Square in London.

The ceremony – which will feature performances from Vilde Frang and James Baillieu – will be broadcast live for the first time since 1997, on, and at 7pm UK time.

Many congratulations to all!

Tippett String Quartets – Heath Quartet [Wigmore Hall Live] Buy

This highly deserved award seems a fitting end to what has been a full to bursting summer for the Heath Quartet, following ecstatically received cycles of Beethoven and Mozart’s late string quartets at the Ryedale and Kilkenny Festivals respectively. It also sets the ball rolling on what will hopefully be a series of excellent recordings; their first disc with Harmonia Mundi is to be released later this Autumn (Tchaikovsky String Quartets Nos 1 & 3) followed by their second next May (the complete Bartók quartets).

Britten & Korngold Violin Concertos – Vilde Frang with Frankfurt Radio Symphony & James Gaffigan [Warner] Buy

*Vilde was also shortlisted for Artist of the Year*

Verdi ‘Aida’ – Accademia di Santa Cecilia & Antonio Pappano feat. Ludovic Tézier (Amonaroso) [Warner] Buy
