Xuefei Yang’s new CD ‘Heartstrings’ is released by Universal China in Hong Kong on Monday 15 June 2015, on the Decca label.
This fabulous album includes many pieces which are close to Fei’s heart, with composers including de Falla, Debussy, Albeniz, Elgar, Piazzolla, Schubert, Takemitsu, Brouwer, Barrios and guitarist John Williams. The CD, produced by Fei, also contains several of her own arrangements, including her arrangement for guitar of a well-known traditional guzheng (13 string zither) piece. In her words, Fei describes her choice of pieces for the disc:
“The sound of the guitar has a magical quality that can be felt in your heart, as well as heard by your ear. Each note starts it’s short life from the direct contact of human flesh on the strings, and this human contact is perhaps conveyed in the sound. For ‘Heartstrings’ I have chosen a selection of music that touches my own heart – a collection of miniatures that can be felt as well as listened to. All of this music touched my heartstrings. Each piece is performed from my own heart, I hope they will touch your heartstrings too.”
Fei’s engagements this season include return visits to the English Chamber and Hallé Orchestras, her Australian debut with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and recitals around the world, including Sydney, Dallas, New York, Boston, Oklahoma, Istanbul, Vilnius and Kings Place, London.
