This weekend Yannick Nézet-Séguin swaps his baton for the keyboard in an evening of chamber music, forming part of the Rheingau Musik Festival’s artist focus series on the conductor.
Entitled ‘Yannick & friends’, Sunday’s concert offers Yannick the rare opportunity to perform as pianist alongside friends with whom he enjoys regular collaborations as soloists in his busy concert schedule as a conductor. Yannick combines with Nicholas Angelich for Schubert’s ‘Fantasie’ for four hands, then accompanies Christiane Karg and Andreas Ottensamer in Schubert’s delightful song ‘The Shepherd on the Rock’. Finally, he is joined by Veronika Eberle, Maximilian Hornung, Pierre Tourville and Pieter Schoeman for Brahms’ epic Piano Quintet in F minor, one of the pinnacles of the composer’s chamber music output.
As part of the festivals artist focus series, Yannick will conduct Alma Mahler’s ‘Six Songs’ and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No.10 with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Sarah Connolly in the final concert of the festival on 27 August.
The concert takes place on Sunday 3 July at 7pm, as part of the Rheingau Music Festival. For more information, visit the festival website.
