Yannick Nézet-Séguin appointed Companion of the Order of Canada

Yannick has been recognised by the Governor General of Canada for services to music

Many congratulations to Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who has been appointed Companion of the Order of Canada by the Governor General of Canada.

Companion, which is equivalent to a knighthood in the UK, is the highest level in the Order of Canada, followed by Officer and Member.  Yannick is the second youngest ever recipient of this title.

More information, including the full list of recipients, can be found on the Order of Canada website.

This appointment has come at an eventful time.  Following his second visit to the Berliner Philharmoniker in mid-June, Yannick crossed the Atlantic to conduct The Philadelphia Orchestra‘s first return to its historic former home, the Academy o f Music, for a four-concert celebration of Leopold Stokowski.  He returns to the States briefly for concerts with the orchestra at the Vail Valley Music Festival this week, then travels to Festspielhaus Baden-Baden to conduct concert performances of Così fan tutte with a stellar cast and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.  As last year (Don Giovanni with Mahler Chamber Orchestra), Deutsche Grammophon will record these concerts live for later release.

Yannick then returns to Canada to conduct the Orchestre Métropolitain at the Festival de Lanaudiere, then on to New York’s Mostly Mozart Festival for concerts with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra.
