Yuval Sharon returns to Bayreuth Festival for revival of Lohengrin

Following a highly successful debut at the Bayreuth Festival last year, Yuval Sharon returns to this year’s festival to revive his production of Wagner’s Lohengrin. Yuval made history last year as the first American director to create a production for this prestigious festival, founded by Wagner himself in 1876.

David Allen of The New York Times championed Yuval’s debut production last year:

Yuval Sharon [opened] this year’s festival with a “Lohengrin” […] with breathtaking visuals and enthralling musicality, under the guidance of the conductor Christian Thielemann.

Yuval will be joined by a stellar cast of internationally renowned singers. Klaus Florian Vogt, one of the world’s most revered Wagnerian tenors, sings the title role with Camilla Nylund in the role of Elsa. Having appeared in the debut production, Piotr Beczala returns to the festival later in the run, again in the title role, alongside Anna Netbrebko, making her Bayreuth Festival debut, as Elsa. Conductor Christian Thielemann also returns to conduct all performances. Check the festival website for more casting information.

Lohengrin opens on 26 July with performances through to 18 August. You can find more information about the production at the Bayreuth Festival website.
