Artistic Partner: Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias
The Spanish composer-conductor Francisco Coll is currently Artistic Partner with Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias across three seasons, which sees him conduct repertoire including Berio, Mussorgsky, Stravinsky and de Falla, alongside his own music.
Francisco has recently enjoyed successful debuts with Kammerorchester Basel, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg. This season also sees his debut with Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León. Strongly influenced by Nordic repertoire, Francisco conducted the Finnish premiere of his orchestral work Hímnica at the Fiskars Summer Festival.
A highly sought-after composer, Francisco is published by Faber Music. He was Composer-in-Residence with Orquestra de Valencia (2018-2020) where he conducted the world premiere of his work Lilith. His position as Composer-in-Residence with Camerata Bern (2018-2019) culminated in winning the BBC Music Magazine Award 2022 for the recording of his Double Concerto Les Plaisirs Illuminés, which he conducted for Alpha Classics.
He works regularly with artists including Sol Gabetta & Patricia Kopatchinskaja. His works have been performed by the world’s leading orchestras and ensembles, including Los Angeles Philharmonic, London Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Finnish Radio Symphony, Münchner Philharmoniker and Bamberger Symphoniker, amongst others.
Born in Valencia in 1985, Francisco studied in Spain before moving to London where he worked privately with Thomas Adès (his only pupil to date) and with Richard Baker at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He now lives in Lucerne. In 2019, he became the first composer to receive an International Classical Music Award (ICMA).
