Introduction

Nuno Coelho won First Prize at the 2017 Cadaqués International Conducting Competition. In summer 2018 he was appointed Guest Conductor of the Orquestra Gulbenkian and a Los Angeles Philharmonic Dudamel Fellow; he made his debut with the latter in October 2018 as part of the orchestra’s Green Umbrella series.

In addition to projects in Lisbon and Los Angeles, the 2018-19 season will see Nuno conduct the BBC Philharmonic, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Ulster Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica de Galicia and Orchestra del Teatro Regio, amongst others.

Assistant Conductor of the Netherlands Philharmonic from 2015-17, Nuno returned to the orchestra in July 2018 for a concert at the Concertgebouw as part of Robeco SummerNights. Other recent engagements include dates with the Basel Sinfonieorchester, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and Kammerorchester Basel.

In June 2018 Nuno conducted the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra as a participant in the Daniele Gatti Masterclass. He has assisted Bernard Haitink, Andris Nelsons, Christoph von Dohnányi, Susanna Mälkki and Marc Albrecht, the latter on Pierre Audi’s production of Parsifal at Dutch National Opera.

“The concert concluded with Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements conducted by Nuno Coelho. […] The TMC ensemble responded well to Coelho’s firm direction bringing out details of Stravinsky’s odd rhythms and diverse palate of colors.”
