Ashley Riches will make US debut next week with Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, for performances of Berlioz’s Lélio.
The performances form part of the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra’s 2018 Berlioz series tour, and will take place at the Hill Auditorium Ann Arbor on 12 October 2018 and at Carnegie Hall on 15 October 2018. Renowned actor and director Simon Callow accompanies the orchestra as the narrator. Performances also feature Michael Spyres as soloist, and the National Youth Choir of Scotland.
Ashley began his 2018/19 season with performances of Dido and Aeneas with the Academy of Ancient Music in London, for which bachtrack praised his “imperious yet tender Aeneas … he can float about the upper register with all the translucent melancholy required, and rage and burn with passion and despair lower down”. Later this month he will perform the central role of Harry Heegan in the first UK revival of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s anti-war opera The Silver Tassie.
