Gothenburg Opera have just made the exciting announcement that, starting in 2018, they will present a new production by Stephen Langridge of Wagner’s RING CYCLE; the first time the cycle has been put on at the house.
American conductor Evan Rogister has been chosen as the conductor for the cycle. The four operas – ‘Das Rheingold’, ‘Die Walküre’, ‘Siegfried’ and ‘Götterdämmerung’ – will be premiered in November each year until 2021, coinciding with the city of Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary.
Evan’s recent highlights include Wagner’s ‘Rienzi’ at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, ‘Carmen’ at Washington National Opera, ‘Aida’ at Malmo Opera and ‘Bluebeard’s Castle’ & ‘Erwartung’ at Gothenburg Opera.
His future plans in Europe include a return to Malmö Opera conducting Peter Stein’s new production of ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’ (from 12 November) and symphonic concerts with the Gothenburg Symphony (2 September) and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic (6 & 8 April 2017).
