Kristina Mkhitaryan makes her role and house debut next week at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in Cavalli’s Il giasone. Alongside her main role as Isfile, she will also sing the part of Il sole.
Conducted by Leonardo García Alarcón and directed by Serena Sinigaglia, this lesser known work was said to be ‘the single most popular opera of the 17th century’. According to the Grand Théâtre de Genève website: “Cavalli turns the Greek myth of Jason, Medea and the Golden Fleece into an opera for the libertine, pleasure-seeking city of Venice in 1649, full of comic scenes and heart-breaking laments, mad scenes and sleep scenes, characters in drag challenging inequitable gender roles and questioning political and religious authority.”
Kristina will also make her debut at Glyndebourne in La traviata and will return later this season to Den Norske Opera for Carmen.
Performances run from 25 January – 7 February 2017. For more information and tickets see the Grand Théâtre de Genève website here.
