Kristina Mkhitaryan wins 2nd prize at 2017 Operalia Competition

Congratulations to Kristina Mkhitaryan, who has won 2nd prize at this year’s Operalia Competition! In the final round – held at Astana Opera in Kazakhstan – Kristina sang “Regnava nel silenzio” from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.

Speaking ahead of the final, Kristina told us she had chosen to sing her favourite role in the final round and that being “around Plácido Domingo and of course the fantastic jury members is really special.”

This prestigious prize comes at the end of an exciting season for Kristina, with debuts in Geneva, in Bergen and at Glyndebourne, plus winning the Golden Opera Special Prize for the New Generation at the International Opera Awards ‘Opera Star’ (Lyric Opera). She will begin the 17/18 season with her Dutch National Opera debut, as Eritea in Cavalli’s Eliogabalo, with Franco Fagioli in the title role.
