‘Les Troyens’ triumphs at the Gramophone Awards 2018

Last night’s Gramophone Awards saw the already highly acclaimed recording of Berlioz’s Les Troyens topping the awards podium winning Gramophone’s Recording of the Year and Opera Award 2018.

Erato’s recording of the complete, uncut score of Les Troyens, with Joyce DiDonato as Didon, under John Nelson’s baton with the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, has already been celebrated as the Recording (Complete Opera) category at the 2018 International Opera Awards, the Opera Award at the 2018 BBC Music Magazine Awards, and Opus Klassik’s opera recording of the year. Huge congratulations to all involved in this epic recording!

Joyce recorded the following message for the Gramophone Awards from Vienna where she is rehearsing her first staged Didon in a new production by David McVicar at the Vienna State Opera.

The full list of Gramophone Award winners can be found here.

Les Troyens will open in Vienna on October 14, with performances also from Adam Plachetka as Chorèbe, Jongmin Park as Narbal, and Anna Caterina Antonacci as Cassandre.

And in the words of Didon, it is “L’art qui nourrit les hommes!”.
