Yannick Nézet-Séguin records Die Zauberflöte for Deutsche Grammophon

During the next week Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Music Director of The Philadelphia Orchestra, incoming Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera and Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal, will conduct and record Mozart’s final mature opera for Deutsche Grammophon – Die Zauberflöte.

This year’s concert performances at the Festival Hall in Baden-Baden are part of the Mozart cycle led by Yannick, who recently signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon. The Yellow Label’s first such cycle since Karl Böhm’s classic sets of the 1960s and 1970s, DG’s Mozart series was launched in September 2011 with the release of a recording of Don Giovanni featuring Yannick and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

The 2018 production of Die Zauberflöte with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and RIAS Kammerchor features Christiane Karg as Pamina.

Performance dates:

After Baden-Baden and Christiane will close their seasons performing Die Zauberflöte at the Salzburg Festival with the Wiener Philharmoniker, joined on stage by Adam Plachetka as Papageno.

Albina then launches her 2018/19 season as Violetta (La traviata) at Wiener Staatsoper with Sir Simon Keenlyside and Pavol Breslik, and continues to make multiple guest appearances at the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theatres, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Hamburg and Lyric Opera of Chicago. Next summer, she will join Daniel Harding and Orchestre de Paris for Britten’s War Requiem.

Christiane’s 2018/19 season includes her role debuts as Mařenka (The Bartered Bride) at Bayerische Staatsoper, and the title role in Daphne at Hamburg Staatsoper. She will also return to the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin for Donna Anna (Don Giovanni). Concerts include performances with Semyon Bychkov and the Czech Philharmonic, and her debut appearance with the Seoul Philharmonic.

Coinciding with this year’s instalment comes the eagerly-awaited release of Deutsche Grammophon’s La Clemenza di Tito from last year’s festival. With a star-studded cast that features Joyce DiDonato as Sesto (a role she will bring to the Metropolitan Opera next season), and Adam Plachetka as Publio (Adam having previously recorded Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte for the same series), and again led by Yannick with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the CD will be available for general release on 6 July 2018 from Deutsche Grammophon, Amazon, iTunes and more.
