    • ...it was at her heartfelt and virtuosic delivery of “No word from Tom” that her performance took flight and from then on, it never descended. Whether almost stupefied in the Act II trio with Tom and Baba or in her moving lullaby in Bedlam, Alder’s performance was coated in a simple humanity which charmed the heart.

    • In the eerie pianissimos of the first movement, or the delicately nuanced string writing of the second, or Sarah Connolly’s transcendentally intense delivery of Urlicht, 5,000 people hardly dared breathe. On the other hand, the final triumphant chorale, hurled out with spine-tingling fervour by the soaring soprano Louise Alder, the London Symphony Chorus and the CBSO Chorus, could probably be heard on the far side of Hyde Park.

Alders herrlicher Sopran lässt nach einer kurzen Phase der Akklimatisation kaum noch Wünsche offen. With a powerful woman like Louise Alder's Susanna at his side, the opera should actually be called "Le nozze di Susanna". Alder's magnificent soprano leaves nothing to be desired.

    • Ihr voluminöser, wuchtiger Sopran ist herrlich dunkel gefärbt, aber mit genug Kraft und Glanz in den Spitzentönen, umnoch vieles zu meistern. Derweil präsentierte sich die 35-Jährige aber noch als formidable Liedsängerin. Her voluminous, massive soprano voice is wonderfully dark in colour, but with enough power and brilliance in the top notes to still be able to master many things. In the meantime, the 35-year-old still presented herself as a formidable lied singer.
